| David Vernon and Nicola Hood were selected
to represent Scotland in the Under 17 and Under 20 age group races at the
International Cross Country in Edinburgh on 12th January. Nicola had
to race with the senior internationalists and acquitted herself very well,
coming in 3rd in her age group and first Scot. David di not hav eas good
a run but has learned a lot from the experience. |

| Kirsty Barr is the first jumps athlete to win representative
honours for the club being selected for the under 17 international in Newport,
Wales. Kirsty was also chosen to represent Scotland at the UK School
Games in Coventry. |

Hope Robertson has had representative honours in various
competitions. She ran over 100 and 200 metres at the schools' Celtic
International winning both races. She also represented Scotland in Newport,
Wales in the under 17 team. Her biggest competition was at the Celtic
Cup at Grangemouth when after running for the West team in the inter-district
relay, she was given a guest run in the 100 metre international race, beating
the other guests running to 4th place behind the international field. Hope
was chosen to represent Scotland at the UK School Games in Coventry. |

Nicola Hood has carried on her record setting over steeplechase
barriers setting a new meeting record representing Scotland in the Schools
Celtic International in Ireland. Nicola is a member of the Liz McColgan Endurance Squad. |

Nicola Hood retained her 2006 title, winning
the under 20 1500 m steeplechase championship at Meadowbank on 17th June.
She currently holds the scottish under 20 1500 and 2000 metre steeplechase
records |

| David Vernon (under 15) and Nicola
Hood (under 20) have been selected to run in the mini marathon held in
conjunction with the 2007 London Marathon. The race involves young athletes
from all over the country and covers the last 2.6 miles of the London Marathon
course. It comes on the back of a very successful cross country season for
both of them |

Hope Robertson
at under 15 is too young for the Bank of Scotland squads but she was one
of the privileged few to be invited for a question and answer session
with Michael Johnson, the world's best ever 400 metre runner. Ten
young sprinters were invited to meet Michael while he was in Glasgow attending
the recent scottish athletics coaching conference. |

| Four Nithsdale AC athletes have been
included in the new Power of 10 Regional (West) Bank of Scotland performance
squads. These squads will concentrate on giving coaching and lifestyle
advice to the athletes in the hope that some of them will feature in the
2014 Commonwealth Games which may take place in Glasgow. The athletes are Andrew Gibson (80 and 1500 metres), Nicola Hood (1500 and 3000 metres), Ross Hastings (Hill running) and Kirsty Barr (Long jump). |

Ross Hastings in the under 16 race in Northern Ireland at the 2006 Hill
Running Home International. The scottish champion took the
silver medal behaind an Enligh athlete and close packing from his team
mates won them the team gold. |

Andrew Gibson was selected as Scotland's
1500 metres in the inaugural UK School Games on 9th & 10th September
2006. The event was created in the run up to the 2012 Olympics to give
elite young athletes a taste of a high level event to prepare the UK youth
of today for representative competition in the future. Andrew placed 7th
in a closely fought race. |

Ross Hastings won
the under 16 Scottish Hill Running title on 27th August 2006. Ross was leading
the series going into the final event and won the race in Aberdenshire,
making sure of his place in the Scottish team in the Junior Home International
in Ireland. |

The Scottish age
groups championships were held on 26th & 27th August 2006 and star
of the weekend was Hope Robertson who won the under 15 100 metres and 200
metres championships. It was a magnificent feat, given that there were
heats, semi finals and finals in both events. Hope's times were
fast and the competition was fierce, making it a memorable achievement. Other medal winners were David Vernon who took a bronze in the under 15 1500 metres in a storming finish; and Andrew Gibson who also won bronze in the under 17 1500 metres. |
